Amit Lall - Update 19th Feb from Sikkim

Amit Lall - Update 19th - 24th Feb (Sikkim + Tibet) + Siliguri & Sikkim Media
Posted on: February 24, 2009

Hi Guys,
I am in Gangtok (Sikkim) right now. I have been here last couple of days. I have driven over 7,500 kms so far. I have driven complete West from Bombay downwards, South - West, South - East, East of India and now North East. I have driven around different parts of the world, but the drive from Siliguri to Sikkim is the MOST BEAUTIFUL SCENIC DRIVE I have ever seen. Its Beautiful. I dont have words to do justice to its beauty. Mountains, Greenery, Streams, lakes, rivers, waterfalls, snow capped mountains, clouds touching the ground, feels like you are driving through Heaven and SIKKIM is truly Heaven. It is so pretty and clean and fresh and untouched. I am in love with this place and have decided to move here once I complete my drive. It shares its border with Nepal, China (Tibet) & Bhutan.
I drove to Nathula border - the Indo - China Pass for Trade. The drive is 55 kms and it takes about 2 and a half hours. Its a very steep drive. The roads are 45 degrees and only place for one car to pass through. So it was very difficult manuevering the car if any other car had to pass.Mountain on one side and valley on the other. Gangtok is approx 7,500 feet above sea level and the temperature here is 15 degrees in the day and about 6-7 degrees at night.I rained tonight so it must be 3-4 degrees now. The Nathula border is 14,300 feet above sea level, almost the same height as Kargil. The temerature there was about 9-10 degrees below zero. It was FREEZING!!! There is very little oxygen at that height, so I could not stay longer than one hour. I met the ITBP (Indo Tibet Border Police). I met the Indian Border Police and also had the opportunity to meet the Tibet Border Police who were very friendly and shook hands and posed for photos and chatted about the brotherhood of India - China. This border also has the highest Internet Cafe in the World & a Telephone at 14,000 feet. Its amazing!!! The Yaks are huge and furry. There was very little snow. After a steep and heavy climb and over the terrain I have been covering, the car gears & clutch were torn, so SIKKIM Hyundai got the job done within 4-5 hours today. I am very grateful to Hyundai Motors India Limited for the support they have extended by sponsoring my drive. TAJ was with me till Calcutta, and will be with me again from Lucknow. The TAJ was amazing and extremely hospitable and treated me with utmost luxury & love.
I met the ITBP and the Army and the Infantry and all the different border security units. I am a guest of SWASTIK, the BRO (Border Roads Organisation). This is the Army. They build border roads.Brigader Pattiar has been very kind and has extended his hospitality on behalf of the army and has made me stay at their guest house. Its beautiful and built at the one of the highest points in Gangtok. I can see entire Gangtok (maybe even entire Sikkim) from up here.
The Sikkim people are extremely friendly and very warm. I had a press meet the day I drove in from Siliguri. 5 papers covered my story, which I have attached alongwith an Online News www.haalkhabar.com (click on it for the story.)
I have been made the "Resource Person" (Reperesentative / Ambassador / Person to Spread the Message) of an NGO - PAHAL. Pahal is a Multipurpose Social Organisation.
It deals with:
1.) Community Based Disaster Preparedness. (Sikkim has lots of Earthquakes, Landslides and natural disaters. This organisation helps prepare the people to deal with this and to provide equipment and support to minimise damage and destruction)
2.) Social watch for the Welfare of Women & Children.
3.) Helping towards promoting gender equality. Men & Womed are equal (A cycle has 2 tyres. Bothe have to be equal to maintain balance. Similarly men & women have to be equal to maintain a balance in life.)
4.) Protection of Flora Fauna & Natural Resources. (They help preserve nature, animals that are becoming extinct etc.)
They also follow "NO Religion" & "NO Caste". Just one - HUMANITY.
After PAHAL, I was supported by the Rotary Club of Gangtok, Sikkim. The President Mr Raaj Bangar & the incoming President Mr.Somani held a press meet, where they offered their support to my drive and cause for the Country. They put stickers on the car and we got a write up in Sikkim Express, which also I will attach.
There is an Organisation - NYK (Nehru Yuva Kendra). It is present all over India in 500 districts. It guides the Youth & helps NGO's. It is run by the Central Government. They are innaugurating their 1st Children's Club called "New Budding Children's Club" and have invited me for the opening. They teach the children National Integration & guide & teach them to be good responsible citizens of India. They also bring out the talent of the children and then help create a platform for the children to enhance their talent.I was supposed to leave tomorrow for Bhutan but I am staying back for this and will leave the day after. I will be meeting the Black Cat Officers tomorrow alongwith the Border Road Organisation Ofiicers.
I am in Bhutan day after and will proceed to Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura. I will keep you all updated.
I set off alone and have gathered the support of "COUNTRY FIRST", "ROUND TABLE INDIA", "ACT" (Alert Citizens Team) - Mysore, "Vigilance Team" of Orissa, "PAHAL" of SIKKIM & "Rotary Club" of SIKKIM. I will be meeting the NYK team tomorrow. I have decided that I will be the link between all NGO's and ensure that they help and coordinate with each other and be there for each other in every state of India and help the Indian Citizens all over the Country with their resources.
Do keep forwarding the status of my drive to all your friends and colleagues as every Indian citizen can make a difference and my MISSION is to get each and every Indian active and involved in our Country.
I have attached 1 paper of Siliguri & 5 papers of Sikkim and the Net news www.haalkhabar.com . I will send the write up of Sikkim Express mentioning the Rotary support in my next mail.
Regards

Second freedom movement reached Gangtok Gangtok, February 22 (IST 12: 43):
After a lucky escape for his mother during the Mumbai attacks, Amit Lall - a Mumbaibased Punjabi businessman who had set out on a unique mission on wheels stopped over in Gangtok on Saturday. While the nation celebrated the Republic Day on January 26, Amit embarked on a drive for peace and unity supported by NGO - Round Table India - and various other institutions including the Taj Group of Hotels. It all started with the blasts at Mumbai's Chatrapathi Shivaji Terminus (CST). "When the blasts happened, my mother was on the train at CST. Though the attack took place a little while after her train left, I was terrified to think of the consequences. Had the train been delayed by some reasons what would have happened?" he asks. His aim is to restore confidence among people, channelize the youth, salute the armed forces, discover India and motivate the masses to help in cleansing the dirty political system by being a part of politics. Amit expects to cover about 15,000 kilometres in a car across the nation and spread the message of peace and unity. He completed total approx. 7500 km roads from Mumbai via Goa-Manglore-Cochin-Kanyakumari-Madurai-Pondichery-Chenai-Banglore-Mysore-Hyderabad-Vishakhapattanam-Bhuwaneshwar-Kolkata-Siliguri up to Gangtok till now. On his way, he interacts with the Navy, Coast Guards other defence officials. He also interacts with the public to spread the message. So far in his journey, he says, he has received tremendous support from various people and is thankful to them. Amit termed his journey is Second freedom movement. "This is also an opportunity for me to know my country by travelling the length and breadth of it. There are many things that I want to tell the youth. But most importantly, I will like them to have direction in life and make conscious decisions," he says. After completing the journey, Amit wants to publish a book on his experiences and he also wants to involve himself in politics if needed. "Politicians are elected by the people to serve the people. But today, it is the other way round. They act as if they are our bosses. This has to change," he says.

Man from Mumbai in Gangtok on a mission A man from Mumbai has reached Gangtok with his mission to free people from the clutches of terrorism, corruption and injustice.Amit Lall had taken up this 'one man mission' after the terrorist attack in Mumbai last year where several lives were lost.Terming the initiative as the second freedom movement, he said the people of India should unite to uproot terrorism and corruption from the country. After the flagging off his mission by Shiv Khera from the Gateway of India on January 26, Amit had travelled to Goa, Bangalore, Cochin, Kanyakumari, Madhurai, Puducherry, Chennai, Mysore, Hyderabad, Vishakapatnam, Bhubaneshwar, Kolkata and Siliguri before reaching Gangtok today.

My Message to every Indian...

Read this carefully. your Freedom depends on it!

Unity is Strength. Divide & Rule policy earlier lost us and cost us our Freedom. Today history is repeating itself. The people running our Country today are separating each state. They are trying to gain power and control of each individual state, thereby setting it apart from the others. Don't they know that merging more states makes India powerful, dividing each state and having internal conflicts makes India weaker? For e.g. the people today say "Jai Maharashtra", "Jai Karnataka", "Jai Haryana". WHY?

This is ONE COUNTRY - ONE NATION. our INDIA. all we have to say is. JAI HIND ! If we don't start participating in the events of our Country today, it will be too late and we would be slaves once again fighting for our Freedom! We as Indian Citizens have rights. We are a Democracy. We have freedom of speech, but people here are afraid to speak up. We are independant and have a right to live life on our terms.

Here women are being beaten in our Country and forced to wear clothes as per the likes and dislikes of our so called "leaders". Women don't have a right to wear what they want? Women don't have a right to drink alcohol after the age of 18 which is legal in our Country? Women are not allowed to talk to men and date men? Are these signs of a free Democratic India?

"Bapu" - Mahatma Gandhi is The Father of Our Nation. He preached Ahimsa (Non-Violence), all there is in our Country is violence & terror! If we follow Violence, why is Bapu the father of the Nation? If we follow Bapu, why are the Indians leading our Country resorting to Violence?India is a Secular Country. We are known to be tolerant of all religions. Why do we have these comunal riots? Why are the Hindu & Muslim constantly fighting and killing each other when they all are from the same motherland - INDIA, they have the same red blood, they eat the same food, they drink the same water, they breathe the same air, where is the secularism and tolerance?

Is this the INDIA we have become? Our people fought for our Freedom and gave their lives for us to enjoy this Independance. They shed their blood and sweat to give us a better future. Is this the future they had in mind for us? Today India is not a Democracy, Its a Dictatorship, dictated by Goondas (Goons & Criminals) who resort to violence to show their power. They are making the common man fearful and cowardly and supressing them & the common man is allowing this and is being supressed. Hitler ruled and now Taliban is coming! Is this what you want for INDIA? Do you want to bring children into this world who live under fear & terror? I think not.

So either Start Speaking up and fight for the bright future of the youth of tomorrow...or stop giving birth to more children bringing them here to live in fear and die.

We can loose our lives. But we cannot loose our freedom!

-Jai Hind

My Mission
The Drive for Peace and Unity
One Man – Covering One Country – With One Message

The Objective:

To prove that we Indians are a resilient lot who refuse to be shaken by a bunch of fanatics who choose the most cowardly method of trying to make a point, to slaughter innocents! To also spread the message that this drive around the sea and land boundaries of our country is the symbolism for the legendary “Lakshman Rekha” which would and should remain impenetrable by sheer unity. This unison aims at galvanizing the people against external threat and frustrating the enemy.

The Sentiment:

I, Amit Lall, am proud to be an Indian and will be attempting “The Drive For Peace and Unity”. Bombay was attacked by terrorists from the sea on 26th November 2008. I live at Churchgate and was lying unwell and helpless in my house when disaster struck our beloved city. I was angered and frustrated that I was physically unable to rush to help the victims of this carnage. In order to awaken the dormant unity amongst the people inhabiting within our “Lakshman Rekha” and to instill security consciousness, resulting in constant vigil against the enemy, I would like to drive along our sea coast starting from Bombay in the West, heading southward to Kanyakumari, then eastward to West Bengal and Nagaland, and then up north to Kargil, along the India – Pakistan border, and then return to Bombay via Delhi, halting at India Gate to salute the martyrs of our country. This mission will also convey a strong sentiment to our enemies, especially in the west and the east, that if they can’t scare one Indian such as me, with their cowardly act, how do they expect to scare the entire country – with this they should fathom the combined strength of the entire nation!

We are proud to be Indians, and we don’t fear anything if we stand united and stand by and protect our Country from any negative elements.

The Contribution:
I believe in the power of the mind and positive thinking. “What the mind can conceive, Man can achieve.” This would be my humble contribution to our people and I request for your support to accomplish this cause that I strongly believe in and stand for. Whichever State of the Union that I pass through, I would also meet the police of that State and the Armed Forces based there, and express my gratitude for what they are doing for our country and for the safety of every Indian. I will appreciate a cavalcade of drivers and bikers, to follow me to show support for the cause, even if they can do so only for a short distance. I will also like to share the trauma that we Bombayites suffered, with people I meet and interact with on my journey through all the Indian States.

The Logistics:

This Mission will be adequately covered by the Media and splashed on Television, Radio and the Newspapers for the benefit of the inland inhabitants. One Man – Covering One Country – With One Message.

The number “26” has proved disastrous for India and is now associated with tragedy and bad luck as the following events on this date are embedded in people’s psyche:

The Tsunami – 26th December
The Kutch Earthquake – 26th January
The Gujarat Floods – 26th June
The Bombay Train Blasts – 26th July
The Ahmedabad Blasts – 26th September
The Latest Terrorists’ Attacks in Bombay (Taj, Oberoi, CST & Nariman House) – 26th November

I Flagged off and launched this mission from the Gateway of India, on 26th January, 2009, our Republic Day. This mission and pilgrimage strives at removing the evil effects of the number 26 associated with disaster and death. After lighting a flame at Gateway of India and the CST, I will also light a flame at every place I stop and request the brave men of the State Police and Armed Forces to join me in doing so. When I reach New Delhi, I will light a candle at India Gate as a tribute to all the courageous Indians who have sacrificed their lives for our country. I will then continue on my Drive for Peace and finally return home by once again touching the Gateway of India on 26th February, 2009, thereby completing my Mission.

I will attempt to complete my journey in 100 days. The periphery of India is approximately 15,000 kms. I will drive approximately 10 – 12 hours a day and cover 500 - 600 kms. a day. I will be driving through 26 states. The only states I will not be entering would be Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh as they are in the interiors of India.

SPONSORS
I will be staying at TAJ Hotels across the country as Mr.Ratan Tata - Chairman Indian Hotels has been kind enough to make the TAJ group of Hotels my Hospitality partner across India for my drive.
I am driving my own Hyundai Accent which I have had for the past 8 years and it has proven its endurance and power, a car which can actually complete the entire drive of India without any hindrance. I shall use only one car and not change cars for the entire drive. I have the Hyundai Motor India Limited team to check and do the necessary touch ups to the car as and when required at any state across the Country.

COME JOIN THE 2nd FREEDOM MOVEMENT...

Jai Hind!
